about me

Why hello! I’m Victoria Ford Smith, and I’m an associate professor in the English Department at the University of Connecticut, where I teach children’s, young adult, and paperhatBritish literature and culture. I like to write about children (mostly the ones who were living around 1900), the things those children did (like invent secret languages and draw pictures that the modernists tried to steal), and the ways adults write about the things those children did.

I also love thinking, talking, and writing about what it means to be a human being working and learning at a university. That endeavor involves a lot of failure. I’m all about completely mucking things up and moving on with (perhaps unmerited) bravado. That’s why I started this blog. You can read more about what I like to think of as the blog’s project here.

Onward!
